Composed in 1684, Actéon is Charpentier’s lyrical retelling of the Greek myth. While hunting, Actéon unexpectedly discovers the goddess Diana and her attendants bathing in a secluded woodland spring. Angered by the intrusion, Diana transforms him into a stag, and he is ultimately hunted down by his own hounds.
